Erland ( Nor. Ørland ) is a commune in the county of Sør-Trøndelag in Norway . The administrative center of the commune is Brekstad , which declared itself a city in 2005. The official language of the commune is Bokmål . The population of the commune for 2010 was 5025 people. The area of Erland is 73.51 km² , the identifier code is 1621. Erland is located at the southwestern tip of the Fosen Peninsula on the north bank of the mouth of the Trondheims fjord , at the confluence of it with the fjord Stjørnfjord .

Community History
The commune of Erland was created on January 1, 1838. In 1853, the Northern District of Bougn was separated to become an independent commune. After that, the population of Erland left 3361 inhabitants. As of January 1, 1896, the southern district of Vernes was separated from Erland and became the commune of Agdenes . After the separation, the population of Erland was 3649 inhabitants.

The main attractions are the bird wetlands under the protection of the Ramsar Convention and the Austrått Manor . In the forest adjacent to the estate, there is one large rocky oak (the northernmost in the world known as Austråtteika [1] ). Also located here are the fortifications of coastal artillery during World War II - Fort Eustrott .
