The gate of Carmenta , Porta Carmentalis - the gate of the Servius wall in Ancient Rome , which served as the main entrance to the Field of Mars .
The gate in the southeastern part of the Capitol was named after the nearby altar of Carmenta [1] , the goddess of divination and birth. The gate was located next to the intersection of modern Roman streets Via della Consolazione and Via della Bocca della Verità . The gates had two passages, one of which was called porta Scelerata - "criminal gates", since the Fabians penetrated through them into Etruscan territory in 306 BC. e., through them they tried not to pass, as it was believed, this brings misfortune [2] .
