Rear View (2003-2006)

The release of this compact van in Germany started in February 2003.

The car is built on the platform of the Volkswagen Golf fifth generation . It uses a new rear axle with four-link wheel suspension and an electromechanical power steering.

It is an essential element of the brand lineup improvement program in the compact class. Specially for the new model, a separate production was launched in Wolfsburg - in fact, a factory inside the Auto 5000 Gmbh factory. Its specialists in full force have undergone special training in the training center of the Volkswagen AG concern, since the most innovative Volkswagen technologies are used to create and promote Touran. Production there continued until 2008.

Touran was the first in its class from Volkswagen to use electromechanical steering. It can distribute steering mass depending on driving speed. Due to the lack of standby power consumption, it also increases the overall efficiency of the car. The Touran was the first car to use the Volkswagen 2.0 TDI engine.

As standard, the car has only five seats. To buy a car with seven seats, you had to pay extra.

In 2003, a 1.6 FSI gas engine and two diesel engines, 1.9 TDI with 74 kW (101 hp, 99 hp) and 2.0 TDI 103 kW (140 hp) were installed on the Touran. ., 138 h.p.). The engines met EURO 4 requirements, with the exception of 1.9 TDi in combination with DSG (direct shift gearbox). Along with this, the Touran was equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard and a DSG for 1.9 TDI engines.

In 2006, the VW Touran restyled version was presented at the Paris Motor Show. The radiator grill has been changed and the new Park Assistiant technology (parking assistance) has been added. The dimensions of the car were slightly changed.

Crosstouran

In December 2006, the CrossTouran minivan crossover was presented at the Bologna Motor Show (Italy). The modification design was developed at Volkswagen Individual GmbH. CrossTouran differs from the standard Touran in 17-inch alloy wheels, remade plastic protective devices that are common for crossovers, and a 15 mm (0.59 in) chassis, which is just an option for a standard Touran in Europe.

The Touran Hy Motion is one of Volkswagen's hydrogen-powered concept cars along with the Tiguan . It has a 80 kW (107 hp) nickel-metal battery, 0-100 km / h (0-62 mph) in 14 seconds and a top speed of 140 km / h (87.0 mph) )

In 2008, the Volkswagen Center in Shanghai, along with Tongji University, launched the Touran Hybrid hybrid in preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympics . The Touran Hybrid prototype was shown with a 20 kW (27 hp) electric motor combined with a 110 kW (148 hp) gasoline engine that comes with a Volkswagen DSG gearbox.

In August 2010, Touran was updated again. Now the compact van used the VI generation VW Golf platform (PQ35). Changes: DCC option (Volkswagen adaptive suspension system), Light-Assist for xenon headlights, an improved Park-Assist system that can also handle perpendicular park positions and updated infotainment systems. The aerodynamics of the car also improved, the coefficient a.s improved from 0.31 to 0.32 and to 0.29. The range of engines has also changed. The new engines are now smaller in volume in liters, 1.2 liter with 77 kW (105 hp, 103 hp) and the new 1.6 Common Rail TDI with 66 kW (90 hp, 89 hp) .) or 77 kW (105 h.p., 103 h.p.). They replaced 1.6 and 1.9 TDI from the previous model. 1.2, rated at 77 kW (105 hp, 103 hp) and 1.6 TDI 77 kW (105 hp, 103 hp) were also available as BlueMotion, a program for Volkswagen cars low fuel consumption. At the end of 2010, Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive launched the new Touran in China. Although its front end has changed a lot, the back has remained unchanged after the first restyling (this is the Chinese version, the European rear has changed a lot). The electronic systems of this car have been modernized as in Europe. The 1.4 TSI engine, with a power of 93 kW, was added to the new model. [2]

In 2012, the range of engines was also changed. The 170 hp engine was replaced with a 177 hp engine

As of April 2010, more than 1.13 million copies of the Touran have already been sold. [3]

In 2003, Touran passed the EuroNCAP crash test. Due to an error in the test, the car scored 32 points and 4 stars. After passing the test, the real result was 33 points and 5 stars.

Since November 2003, the Touran has been equipped with an intelligent seat belt reminder system for the driver and front passenger. An extra point allowed him to get a five-star rating. The car body received only a slight deformation in a head-on collision. With a frontal impact, the protection of children was weak, pedestrian safety was recognized as good. The Touran was the second car designed and assembled in Europe, which received three stars for pedestrian safety.

The Touran is equipped with an ABS anti-lock braking system for emergency braking and an electronic Stability Program ESP. When driving with a trailer, the buildup of the trailer is prevented by the integrated electronic stabilization system. Optional adaptive AFS headlights automatically change their position depending on the speed and angle of rotation of the steering wheel. It is equipped with two front, side and window airbags, front belts with pretensioners and load limiters, as well as fastening Isofix child seats on the extreme rear row seats.
