Biography

Military career

In 1949 he graduated from the courses of the General Staff of Mexico and until the mid-1960s, while serving in the armed forces, taught at the higher military educational institutions of Uruguay, held the posts of deputy chief of staff of the ground forces and chief of the general inspection of the army. Political Activities

In 1971, he left the party of Colorado , participated in the creation of the left political movement Wide Front (SF) and became one of its leaders.

In the elections, he received 20.35% of the vote (2nd place, with the winner, Luis Lacalle , 21.63%). Being a moderately left politician, not always understood and supported by associates, he often tried to act as a unifying and conciliatory side.

February 5, 1996 resigned as president of the Chess Federation. In the same year he founded the "Center for Strategic Studies 1815".

In 2003 , during the 4th congress of the FSH, he announced his retirement from active politics. In 2004, he dismissed the Center for Strategic Studies 1815 and delivered his last speech, which is considered his political testament.
