The name of the county comes from the name of the traveler Lewis, who, along with another traveler, Clark, participated in the expedition of 1805 . The purpose of the expedition was the study of Idaho. [3]

Lewis County was formed on March 3, 1911 . The name of the county was in honor of the Merwiter Lewis , a member of the expedition Lewis and Clark . [four]
