The causative agent is the trematode Nanophyetus schikhobalowi / Nanophyetus salmincola schik-hobalowi (Skrjabin et Podjapolskaja, 1931). The parasite has a pear-shaped shape, a length of 0.5-1.5 mm, a width of 0.3-0.8 mm. The eggs are light brown, oval, with a lid on one and a tubercle on the other pole. The parasite development cycle occurs with the change of three hosts. Mature helminths are located in the upper small intestine of the final (definitive) hosts (humans, many species of fish-eating mammals ( cats , dogs , minks , foxes , raccoon dogs, bears , etc.) [1] .

The causative agent of nanophytosis was first discovered in humans by K.I. Scriabin and V.P. Podyapolskaya in 1928 in the lower reaches of the Amur .

In some states of the Pacific coast of the USA , in Canada and in the Far East of the USSR, foci of animal nanophytosis caused by N. sal-mincola salmincola, which are close to the pathogen in humans, are known.

Helminthiasis is common in North America, East Asia; in the USSR, individual foci are found in the Khabarovsk Territory, in the lower reaches of the river. Cupid, in the north of about. Sakhalin.

A person becomes infected with nanophytosis by eating raw or half-baked fish containing helminth larvae.
