Mezhsharsky

Mezhsharsky is an island of the Novaya Zemlya archipelago located in the Barents Sea . Administratively owned by the Arkhangelsk region . The highest point is 94 meters. It is the third largest island of the archipelago.

Geography

The island is very gray and boggy. It is composed mainly of shales and sandstones [1] . There are many rivers, in the central part, from the east to the west, the Syrayakha river flows . The highest point is Mount Vysokaya , 94 meters. Extreme points: the north is Cape Valkova , the south is Cape Kostin Nos , the west is south of Cape Shadrovsky , the east is Cape Mal Kit .

Geographically, the island is divided into several parts.

The Deception Ball lagoon separates the small southern part of the island. There are several log huts and many lakes, the largest of which are salty. The terrain is flat, marshy. The highest point is 28 meters. The extreme southern point is Cape Kostin Nos , the extreme eastern point is Cape Krestovy , the extreme northern point is on a long narrow spit that separates the Obmanny Shar lagoon from the Kostin Shar Strait.

Makarov Bay separates the northeastern part of the island - the Valkov Peninsula . The highest point is 52 meters; located in the north of the peninsula. There are also many lakes on the Valkova peninsula, most of which are located in the north. The extreme northern point is Cape Valkova .

In the north is a small mountainous peninsula of Yartsev , separated from the island of Yartsev by the narrow Strait of Iron .

Another peninsula, the Makarov Peninsula , is located in the east of the island. It is separated from the main part by the salt lake Gusinoe with a channel and a smaller, nameless one. The highest point is 54 meters.

Flora and Fauna

The island is covered with tundra vegetation . On the rocks there are bird markets [1] .

Adjacent waters

Mezhsharsky Island is washed by the Barents Sea . It is separated from the Yuzhny Island and many smaller ones by the Kostin Shar Strait, and from the Yartsev Island by the Iron Strait. The coastline of the eastern part is heavily indented. The average low tide is 1 meter.
