History

The team was founded on August 18, 1948 by nine immigrants from Italy under the name "Deportivo Italy" ( Spanish: Deportivo Italia ). They gave the team a name in honor of their homeland, as well as the blue colors in which the Italian team performs.

The “golden” period in the history of the team was the 1960s: Deportivo Italy three times became the champion of Venezuela (1961, 1963, 1966) and the same number of times - the owner of the Cup of the country (1961, 1962, 1970). The fourth championship title was won in 1972, that is, around the same historical period. From 1965 to 1971, the team five times took second place in the championship (including four times in a row - from 1968 to 1971). From 1964 to 1972, Deportivo Italy took part in the Libertadores Cup six times. In 1969, the team reached the quarter finals of this tournament - the best result in club history.

For comparison - after 1972 the team only once became the champion of Venezuela - in 1999, and took part in the Libertadores Cup three times (1985, 2000, 2001, in the last two cases these were only preliminary rounds of the tournament).

From August 1998 to 2006 the team was called “Deportivo Italchacao” - as a result of the merger with the team of “Deportivo Chacao” ( Spanish: Deportivo Chacao FC ). In 2006, the former name was returned, and in July 2010 the club was renamed “Deportivo Petar”. Since 2015, the club was again renamed FC Petare ( Petare Futbol Club ).
