Vietnam at the 1968 Summer Olympics

Vietnam ( Republic of Vietnam ) took part in the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City ( Mexico ) for the fifth time in its history, but did not win a single medal. The national team was represented by 2 women ( Nguyen Min Tam and Nguyen Thi Mi Mi Lien ) and 7 men in 5 sports.

The youngest participant in the Games from the country was the cyclist Cyong Kim Hung (16 years and 321 days), the oldest - a shooter with a pistol Wu Wang Zan (42 years and 189 days).

Athletes and Their Results

Cycling

Bui Van Hoang and Cheong Kim Hung took part in the men's group race, both left the race and did not reach the finish line [1] . Kyong Kim Hung was the youngest member of this race.

Athletics

Ho Hyun Phiok participated in the decathlon tournament, but withdrew from the competition after four kinds: 100 meter run , long jump , shot put and high jump [2] .

Swimming

Nguyen Minh Tam participated in competitions at a distance of 100 meters freestyle [3] . She could not pass the first qualifying round, taking the last, 6th place in her swim, showing the time 1: 09.5 [4] .

Nguyen Thi Mi Lien participated in competitions at a distance of 100 meters on the back [5] and also could not pass the first round of qualification, taking the last 7th place in the swim with a result of 1: 19.2 [6] .

Shooting

In shooting disciplines, Vietnamese athletes were represented in two types of programs.

In shooting from an arbitrary pistol at a distance of 50 meters, Zyong Van Zan and Ho Min Thu participated. Zyong Van Zan scored 519 credits and took the final 57th place, and Ho Min Thu took 43rd place with 533 points [7] . Ho Min Thu four years later participated in the Olympic Games in Munich [8] .

Wu Wang Zan took part in firing a high-speed pistol at a distance of 25 meters and took 53rd place with 56 participants, gaining 548 points: 273 in the first round and 275 in the second [9] .

Fencing

Nguyen The Locke participated in the saber competition, for him the 1968 Games became the second in his career: four years earlier, he had already participated in the Tokyo Olympics [10] . As at the previous Olympics, Nguyen The Lock did not pass the first round of the competition, but this time he was unable to win a single battle out of six, he delivered 3 productive hits with 30 against rivals [11] .
