Sign Design
The sign depicts the victorious German sword stuck in the ground as a sign of the end of wars. At the bottom of the sign is a skull - the emblem of the SS . Hydra wraps around the blade of the sword - a mythological five-headed snake symbolizing numerous partisan gangs (in ancient Greek mythology, instead of a severed head, a new one grows in Hydra). The whole composition was framed by a wreath of oak leaves . The imperial eagle on the sign is missing. The swastika on the sign in its round version is the so-called zonnenrad. Sonnenrad ( German: Sonnenrad ), “sun wheel” or “solar swastika”.
For the manufacture of signs, zinc was used, the technologies of die forging and injection molding were used, followed by the application of bronze, silver and gold coatings. Known options with solid and hollow stamped oak leaves. The pin, depending on the manufacturer, could be flat stamped or standard, with a round cross section. The size of the award is 57 × 49 mm.
