Club career

Celtic

Paul is a graduate of the Glasgow Celtic Academy [2] . McGowan's debut as part of the Celts took place in September 2007 in a victorious white-green match over the Inverness Caledonian Thistle club.

The first goal for Glazgov players Paul scored on August 7, 2008 in a friendly match with the English Manchester City , held at the Celtic Park stadium. In the same game, he had a chance to make a "double", but his blow fell on the frame of the Gates of Sir Alex, and the meeting itself ended with a score of 1: 1.

December 10, 2008 McGowan first went out for the Glazgov team in the European Cup, replacing teammate Aiden McGeady in the 75th minute of the meeting with the Spanish " Villarreal ". The game took place as part of the last round of the E Champions League group. The Celts defeated the Spaniards 2-0, but they still finished with the worst result in their group.

On December 17, 2009, Paul made his debut in another European tournament - the Europa League . Rival "Celtic" was the Austrian club " Rapid ". McGowan, coming out in the white-greens starting lineup, spent the whole match and scored a goal in the 91st minute of the meeting [3] .

Greenock Morton

In the 2006/07 season, Paul joined the lease on Greenock Morton Club in the Second Division of Scotland . Playing in the forward position, he scored 16 goals in 44 games of the club, becoming the team's top scorer. "Morton", having won the tournament, went into the First Division , and McGowan himself was included in the symbolic team of the season of the Second Scottish League. He also took third place in the dispute for the title of "Football Player of the Year."

In the offseason, Greenock Morton tried to buy a player’s transfer from Celtic, but the Glazow team asked Paul for too much for blue-white, and the transfer did not take place [4] .

Hamilton Academic

On the January transfer window of 2009, McGowan was again in the lease - in the club of the Scottish Premier League , Hamilton Academic . The first game for the "Academic" Paul played already on January 10 , when in the Scottish Cup match his team defeated Ross County 1: 0. Having played 16 games for Hamilton and scored 1 goal, in May of the same year McGowan returned to the Celtic camp.

St. Mirren

In July 2010, for the third time in his career , Paul was lent by Celtic to another club - this time to the team of St. Mirren [4] .

McGowan's debut for the "saints" took place on August 14 , when his club met with Dundee United [5] . Eleven days later, Paul opened the scoring with his goals in St. Mirren, hitting the Ross County gate in the League Cup match . [6] On January 18, 2011, McGowan designed his first “ hat trick ” in his professional career. It happened in a duel of the Fourth Round of the Scottish Cup, in which Peterhead was the opponent of the “saints”. The final score of the match - 6-1 in favor of St. Mirren [7] .
