Skelani

Skelani is a village in Bosnia and Herzegovina , in the community of Srebrenica .

As of 1991, 1,123 people lived in the village, of which 950 Bosnians (84.59%) and 160 Serbs (14.25%).

The village is located 50 km from Srebrenica, the road to the village runs through hard-to-reach mountains.

During the Bosnian war in May 1992, the village was taken by Serbian forces. The village was declared Serbian, despite the predominantly Muslim population. After the capture of the village, 550 Muslim residents, mainly women, old people and children, were expelled from it. [one]

The village became famous after the Bosnian troops massacred the Serbs here on January 16, 1993 [2] . As a result, 6 residents of Skelani and the surrounding area were killed, 165 were injured and 30 were captured. Most people died on the Skelansky bridge, which was under fire from Muslim units.
