Indonesia took part in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, for the twelfth time in its history, and won one silver, two bronze and one gold medals. The national team was represented by 38 participants, of which 16 were women.

Judo competitions were held according to the elimination system. Comforting meetings were held between the athletes who were defeated in the quarterfinals of the tournament. The winners of the consolation meetings met in the battle for 3rd place with athletes who lost in the semi-finals in the opposite half of the tournament bracket.
