Indonesia took part in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta ( USA ) for the tenth time in its history, and won one silver, two bronze and one gold medals. The national team was represented by 40 participants, of which 17 were women.

Judo competitions were held according to the elimination system. Comforting meetings were held between the athletes who were defeated in the quarterfinals of the tournament. The winners of the consolation meetings met in the battle for 3rd place with athletes who lost in the semi-finals in the opposite half of the tournament bracket.
