Teacher and public figure. Professor Emeritus of the Venezuelan Central University, Institute of the National Park of Venezuela and the University of Latvia. Foreign member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences . Dean of the Faculty of Sciences of Venezuelan Central University and Director of the Department of Botany. Ernest Foldats was born in Liepaja, where he received his primary education. Then he entered the Latvian Legion . In 1948 he emigrated to America. From 1949 to 1954 he studied at the Venezuelan Central University. In 1964, Ernest Foldats conducted research on orchids in South America . During his stay and work in Venezuela, he collected and systematized a very large layer of information about orchids and described about 70 unknown species. In 1998, the Venezuelan Academy of Sciences Foldats was elected the country's leading biologist and received the International Creole award.
