Biography

Born in 1982 in the northern province of Saad . Father Badr al-Din Hussein al-Khusi was an outstanding religious figure in the Shiite Zeydite sect. Abdul-Malik al-Khusi was the youngest among his eight brothers. So his older brother Hussein al-Husi was an active politician and member of the Yemeni parliament . He also founded the Al-Khusi movement, fighting for the rights of the Zeidites.

On December 26, 2009, the media reported that he died from wounds received as a result of a Saudi Arabian Air Force raid on one of the militant bases [1] . However, the information was disproved [2] . Later, an audio message appeared that he agrees to the cease-fire proposed by the government, in order to avoid civilian casualties, and called on the government to cease hostilities against its followers [3] .

Late at night on January 20, 2015 , Abdul-Malik al-Khusi turned to the nation on Yemeni TV after the Hussites captured the presidential palace and attacked the private residence of the President of Yemen, Abd Rabbah Mansour Hadi in Sana'a . He demanded from Hadi reforms giving the Hussites more control over parliament [4] . Although it was initially reported that Hadi acknowledged al-Husi’s demands [5] , Hadi filed a resignation letter, which should have been considered by parliament [6] .
