Biography

Born November 10, 1921 (according to other sources - November 23, 1921 [1] ) in Smorgon (now in the Grodno region of Belarus ) in the family of an Orthodox priest.

In 1939 he graduated from Vilnius State Theological Seminary , in 1951 - from the conductor-choir and vocal departments of the Lithuanian Conservatory (class of professor K. Kaviackas). At the same time he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius State University with a degree in surgeon.

In 1951 - 1954 he studied at the graduate school of the Moscow Conservatory. P.I. Tchaikovsky (class A.V. Sveshnikov ). In 1956 he defended his thesis (devoted to the problems of performing folk songs in an academic choir).

He combined post-graduate work with choirmaster work in the USSR GARH , the Moscow Choir School (now the A. V. Sveshnikov Choral School as part of the V. Popov Academy of Choral Art ), as well as the Conservatory Opera Studio.

In 1956 - 1965 he was the chief choirmaster and conductor of the State Academic Choir Chapel of the Byelorussian SSR (now the State Academic Choir Chapel of the Republic of Belarus named after G. Shirma ).

Since 1965 - Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Academic Choir of Belarusian Television and Radio .

Since 1956 he taught at the Belarusian Conservatory (now the Belarusian State Academy of Music ) (since 1961 - associate professor, since 1964 - head of the department of choral conducting, since 1975 - professor). Artistic Director of the Concert Choir of the Belarusian Academy of Music.

V.V. Rovdo was actively engaged in public education, acted as the organizer of children's song celebrations in Belarus, and repeatedly participated as a jury member in various choral festivals and competitions.

Compiled choral collections, conducting books on conducting, shot and recorded in the radio and television funds of Belarus more than two thousand works of foreign and Russian choral classics, folk songs, compositions of Belarusian composers [2]

He died on November 18, 2007 . He was buried at the Eastern (Moscow) cemetery in Minsk.

In the name of R.V. Rovdo is named one of the streets in the city of Smorgon .
