Biography

Born in Brig, in Silesia on January 1, 1763, and on May 10, 1777, entered the military service as a cadet in the 11th Dragoon Regiment, in whose ranks he took part in the war for the Bavarian inheritance . December 26, 1778 he was promoted to ensign and August 24, 1785 as junior lieutenant.

May 30, 1791 Dobuschutz received the rank of lieutenant and in 1793-1795 he took part in the first coalition war against the French Republic, for the difference was promoted to majors on November 20, 1794.

On June 5, 1805, Dubschütz was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on June 15, 1806, to colonel. During the campaign of the Prussian troops in Silesia against the French, Dubschütz was captured. At the conclusion of the Tilsit Peace, Colonel Dobsciutz was entrusted with the exchange of prisoners of war; at the end of this assignment, he left the service and lived in his estate near Glogau .

From November 1, 1812, Dobsciutz dealt with organizational issues of the Silesian landver , and after the declaration of war in France, he was appointed president of the commission to compile the landver in Silesia, took an active part in the new development of the Prussian armed forces and then was appointed division commander of the Silesian landver.

After the unsuccessful battle of the Allies at Baucen, the French invaded Lower Silesia and Dobsciutz was instructed to gather the landweers of the nearest districts as soon as possible, to occupy, in conjunction with Major General von Ginrichs, Crossen and observe the Oder to Glogau. Marshal Victor approached with a 10,000th detachment and demanded, on May 23, 1813, surrender of Crossen. The prudent measures of Colonel Dobsciutz and skillfully conducted negotiations with the French military leader kept the enemy in the distance. Crossen, meanwhile, was strengthened and the organization of the landver completed.

In July, Dobsciutz was promoted to major general and appointed reserve commander of the 4th Army Corps in Munich. He distinguished himself in many battles and for the difference in the case near Blankenfeld received the Iron Cross of the 2nd class and the Russian Order of St. Vladimir 3rd degree. Then, acting together with the Cossack detachment of Colonel Ilovaisky , he significantly contributed to the success of the battle at Dennevitsa , for the difference he was awarded the Iron Cross of the 1st class.

On August 27, on September 7, during the reconnaissance of Mülberg , he seized significant reserves and captured 19 French officers and 300 lower ranks, for which the Russian emperor Alexander I granted Dobsciutz the Order of St. Anna of the 1st degree.

On October 11, General Dobsciutz was entrusted with the siege of Wittenberg . For lack of artillery, he limited himself to a blockade. On December 17, upon the arrival of the corps commander, Count Tauentsin , parallels were discovered; the assault launched on December 31 was ruled by Dobschütz and Wittenberg was taken; for distinction he received the Order of the Red Eagle of the 3rd class.

After that, Dobsciutz was sent to Erfurt , to take command over the siege corps. The surrender came under the contract on March 4, 1814; Dobsciutz made 5 infantry regiments in the vicinity of Magdeburg , where he was led by Lieutenant General Hirschfeld . When, at the conclusion of peace, the temporary Prussian rule of Saxony was transferred to Prussia , Dobsciutz was, until the return of the King of Saxony, military commandant of Dresden .

In the continuation of the campaign of 1815, Dobsciutz served as governor-general of the Rhine provinces.

On April 6, 1817, Dobsciutz was promoted to lieutenant general and appointed commander of the 12th division; On June 18, 1825 he was appointed Governor General of Silesia and Breslau , and on May 10, 1827, while celebrating his anniversary, he was granted the cavalry generals with the permission to leave the service.

Among other awards, Dobsciutz had the Order of the Red Eagle of the 2nd and 1st classes, granted to him in 1815 and 1824, respectively.

He died on February 3, 1836 at his estate in Lower Silesia.
