Pink Tern [1] ( lat. Sterna dougallii ) is a species of seabirds from the gull family (Laridae) [2] . It has many populations that differ in beak color and plumage color details.

As of February 2018, there are 5 subspecies with ranges [2] :

  • Sterna dougallii arideensis Mathews, 1912 - Seychelles , Madagascar and the island of Rodriguez .
  • Sterna dougallii bangsi Mathews, 1912 - from the Ryukyu Islands and eastern China to New Guinea , northeast Australia and the islands of the south-west of the Pacific Ocean
  • Sterna dougallii dougallii Montagu, 1813 - East of North America , West Indies , Azores , Europe and Africa
  • Sterna dougallii gracilis Gould, 1845 - Moluccas , North and West Australia
  • Sterna dougallii korustes (Hume, 1874) - Sri Lanka , Andaman Islands and Miei Islands
