At this time, she participated in various international programs, including UN programs. One of the most important areas of her work has been police reform in Latin America in general, and in Costa Rica in particular.

Presidency

Laura Chinchilla won the presidential election on February 7, 2010 . Chinchilla became a candidate from the ruling National Liberation Party . Under the previous administration of the Oscars, Arias Chinchilla held the posts of one of the two vice presidents, and was also the Minister of Justice. Chinchilla officially took office on May 8th. [5]

Although it represents the center-left Social Democratic Party, it was considered economically liberal and socially conservative as a politician. However, her political course was quite progressive : one of Chinchilla’s first initiatives as president was the proposal to introduce three days off a week for women instead of two. In July 2013, the president signed into law the legalization of same-sex partnerships [6] .
