History and celebration
The date for the celebration of this professional holiday was not chosen by chance.
"International Bartender's Day" is celebrated on the day when the Catholic Church honors the memory of St. Amand , therefore the holiday is also called " St. Amand 's Day ." This Christian Catholic lived in the VII century AD on the territory of present-day France , which, among other things, is known as the patrimony of winemakers and is traditionally famous for its wines . In 20 years, having gone against the will of his family, he became a monk . Amand made a pilgrimage to Rome, and then decided to become a missionary. He launched his missionary activity on the territory of modern Belgium. . For Catholics, St. Amand is considered the patron saint of winemakers , restaurateurs , brewers and, of course, bartenders because of his efforts to evangelize the wine-growing regions of France, Germany and Flanders .
The tradition of celebrating the International Bartender Day on a large scale was laid in Kiev in 2008 [2] on the joint initiative of the Kiev rock club Docker Pub and the International Bartenders Center Planet Z. The idea was picked up in Russia , where the holiday since 2009 has become increasingly popular. Despite the fact that the International Bartender's Day is held on St. Amand's Day, these are two different holidays, the first is professional, the second is Catholic.
It should be noted that Saint Amand is not revered by the Russian Orthodox Church .
