Pre-war time

Before the war, Brettweet was a home school for boys, established in 1918. In 1923, the school became a state, later it was decided to turn it into a labor school, but did not have time because of the war [1] [2] .

Concentration Camp

In 1940, Norway was captured and occupied by Germany . Since 1941, the Nazi authorities began to use it as a political prison. This contributed to the transformation of the prison into a concentration camp.

Among the people who were in the camp during the war were professors who were arrested during a demonstration at the University of Oslo in October 1943: Johan Christian Schreiner, Odd Hassel, Ragnar Frisch, Johannes Andenæs, Carl Jacob Arnholm, Bjørn Føyn, Eiliv Skard, Harald K. Schjelderup and Anatol Heintz. In addition, the camp contained a group of Jewish prisoners who arrived in Oslo after the SS troops retreated from the Danube ; soon, on February 24, 1943, they were sent to Auschwitz .

Post-war time

After the liberation of Norway in 1945, a women's prison for collaborators was established on the basis of a concentration camp. The director was Aaslaug Aasland [3] .
