About the album
In Shabooh Shoobah there is an even greater departure from naive motifs than on previous records. Although styles such as reggae “Jan's Song” and ska “Black & White ” are still found on the album, they are already in a clear minority.
The main hit of the disc is the title track “The One Thing” - a rhythmic composition with a smooth intro and a broken (sometimes even syncopated) chorus containing Hawaiian motifs. One of its highlights is the cacophonic solo of Kirk Pengili's saxophone . The second most important is considered to be “Don't Change,” which the musicians performed until the cessation of joint activity.
Starting from this album, Andrew Farris, in addition to keyboards, also began to play the guitar - Golden Playpen can serve as a vivid example.
Shabooh Shoobah was a real breakthrough for the group, opening the door for it to begin international recognition. The album was supported by a massive tour at that time with a visit to the USA, where INXS gave concerts at the Perkins Palace in California and at the large-scale festival US Festival in the summer of 1983, where the group performed on the same stage with Missing Persons , Berlin , Divinyls , Scorpions , Ozzy Osbourne , U2, and Van Halen .
Impact on World Pop Culture
The song “Don't Change” was re-recorded by Everclear , The Bravery , Grinspoon , Goo Goo Dolls , Matchbox Twenty and as a bonus track on AFI 's Decemberunderground album. “Don't Change” also plays in the film “ Park of Culture and Rest ” and is the main soundtrack to this film.
