Content
History
The farm was founded in the second half of the 19th century by Molokan migrants from the Tauride province on leased lands in the yurt of the Erketinskaya stanitsa. The immigrants built dugouts from clay and reeds, worked for hire with Kalmyk Cossacks. Later, part of the settlers moved over closer to the village of Ataman , establishing the second orphan farm [2] .
According to the Alphabetical List of the Populated Areas of the Region, the Donskoy’s troops of 1915 in the temporary settlement of Sirotsky in the village of Erketinskaya had 9 yards, 48 male and 42 female souls lived [3] .
According to the 1926 All-Union Population Census, the Sirotsky farm belonged to the Erketinsky village council of the Dubovsky district of the Salsky district of the North Caucasus region, 160 people lived in the farm, 155 of them Ukrainians [4] .
Physico-geographical characteristics
The farm is located within the Ergeninsky Upland ( Salsko-Manych Ridge ), which is part of the East European Plain , with the Urtugul beam ( Sal river basin), just above the village of Erketinovskaya , at an altitude of about 60 meters above sea level [5] . The terrain is flat, gently sloping. Soils are chestnut solonetzic and solonchak soils [6] .
By road, the distance to Rostov-on-Don is 330 km, to the nearest large city Volgodonsk - 96 km, to the district center of the village of Dubovskoye - 31 km, to the administrative center of the rural settlement - the village of Andreevskaya - 12 km [7] .
