Story

The work consists of 22 chapters. The events of the novel take place in the XXII century in the solar system .

The crew of the Starover spacecraft discovers a catastrophe cargo ship on which someone's voices are heard. No one was found on the cargo, but there are strange toy-sized cars and empty cages. Young researchers manage to separate the living compartment from the nuclear engine, which threatens to explode at any time, and tow the compartment into the orbit of Mars . Researchers turn for advice to their mother starship living in the slums of Marsoport, which confirms their hunch about toy cars. They return to the cargo and cunningly discover two tiny little men. To learn the unknown language of aliens, "Starover" goes to the asteroid Eros , where a special linguistic computer is located. It turned out that the aliens were captured by smugglers, but, not knowing astronomy, they cannot help in the search for their own planet. According to the description of living conditions, scientists guess that this is Mercury . Arriving on Mercury, young researchers discover smugglers there. As a result of incredible adventures, they manage to capture the leader and save the inhabitants of a small planet.

Story Features

  • The asteroid Eros turned out to be a giant spaceship and became an important scientific center of earthlings.
  • The Langivac computer, located on Eros, is able to decrypt languages and quickly learn any language.
  • In describing civilization on Mercury, the author attaches great importance to the fact that the planet is always facing the Sun on one side, like the Moon facing one side of the Earth. As a result, one side of the planet is red-hot, and the opposite is an icy desert and in the narrow strip between these areas there is a temperate zone favorable for life. Indeed, it was long believed that Mercury was turned to the Sun on one side. Only in the mid-1960s did it become clear that this was not so.
