Luxoflux was originally supposed to be called the Alpha Channel, but then it was discovered that this name was already taken. Luxoflux had a rather small development team during the development of the first projects. The two founders and Jeremy Engelman , David Goodrich , Edward Toth created the first major Luxoflux project called Vigilante 8 . The company was acquired by Activision Corporation (which previously had been publishing its games) in October 2002. From this moment until its closure, the studio was engaged in the development of games for various film franchises.

On February 11, 2010 Activision announced the closure of the studio as part of an overall reduction in the company's staff [2] .

The founders of Luxoflux subsequently founded Isopod Labs , and then announced the release of Vigilante 8 Arcade on XBLA in the summer of 2008.
