About the album
Astral Weeks is a non-profit, extremely self-deepening album, in which the elements of blues , jazz , rock and folk music are intricately intertwined. The term "Celtic soul" is sometimes used to denote this style. Songs flow smoothly into each other, making up not so much a collection as a single whole piece.
Since Morrison did not find a common language with the session musicians, he was left alone in the studio with an acoustic guitar. A significant part of the songs he improvised in the studio during the 3-hour session. Subsequently, first-class jazz musicians accompanied the vocals.
Despite relatively little commercial success, Astral Weeks is regularly listed on the greatest albums in the history of popular music. In November 2008, Morrison performed songs from an album on the Hollywood Bowl stage in Los Angeles . In 2009, this record went on sale as a live album.
