Nyulsmurt ( Udm. Forest man ), Nyleskuso ( Udm. Forest master ) - the goblin in Udmurt mythology .
Nülesmurt stood out in its significance among all other creatures of Udmurt mythology. Sometimes he was called Bydzym nurse "Great grandfather, father." Some researchers even believed that “the first and most important god in the galaxy of pagan gods among the Glazov’s Votyaks is the god of forests and winds ... He is attributed to the support of the pagan cult of Votyaks. In a word, he enjoys enormous influence ” [1] . All this is explained by the enormous role of the forest in the life of the Udmurt traditional culture . Nülesmurt is the owner of the forest, and since the forest was almost the entire natural environment of the Udmurts, Nülesmurt knew all of this, he is the owner of the animals (in particular, he controls where the bear lies in the den) [2] , he is approached by hunters for help and assistance in hunting, the well-being of livestock depended on Nyulsmurt (the fenced part of the forest served as scabbling), sometimes it was even somehow connected with the dead ancestors. The debris of the forest, where a hurricane, a tornado passed, was called Nyulasmurt's road, which is why sometimes Nylesmurt was also considered a deity of the wind. Fierce battles took place between the Nulumsmurts and the Vumurts ; it was believed that they usually happened at noon, so people were afraid to swim, to enter the river at that time - similar ideas existed among the Komi [3] .
