Jay Lovestone ( born Jay Lovestone , nee Jacob Liebstein , 1897-1990) - leader of the American Communist and labor movement, leader of the US Communist Party , later - ardent anti-communist and CIA agent . As general secretary of the Communist Party, he initiated the struggle against the Trotskyist wing supporting the International Left Opposition , but in 1929 he was expelled for his β right deviation β and created the US Communist Party - Opposition .

Biography
Childhood and adolescence
Yakov Libshtein was born in the town of Molchad, Slonim district, Grodno province (now the village of Molchad, Baranavichy district, Brest region of Belarus) in a rabbi family. In 1907, the family emigrated to the United States of America and settled in New York . The exact date of birth of Jacob is unknown, her parents recorded her as December 15, 1897 . From a young age imbued with radical, including communist ideas. In 1918 he graduated from City College , in 1919 entered the law school of New York University, but soon left her to completely devote himself to work in the US Communist Party . In February 1919, he officially changed his name to Jay Lovestone.
Activities in the US Communist Party (1919-1929)
In 1921, Lovestone became editor of the Communist party newspaper, and from February to August 1922 he was executive secretary of the United Communist Party of America.
After the death of V.I. Lenin in January 1924, various factions of the US Communist Party were guided by various factions in the leadership of the CPSU (b) . The faction of William Foster focused on Stalin , and the fraction of Lovestone sympathized with Bukharin . In 1928 , at the 6th Congress of the Comintern, James Cannon and the leader of the Communist Party of Canada, Maurice Spector, spoke from the positions of Trotsky , and Cannon created a faction on the Trotskyist platform in the US Communist Party. Lovestone organized the expulsion from the party of Cannon and his supporters.
