Steve Lillywhite ( born 1955) - British music producer , multiple Grammy Award winner [1] , most famous during the heyday of the new wave - when he recorded albums, in particular, Siouxsie & the Banshees , XTC , Talking Heads . Later, Lillywight worked, among others, with the Rolling Stones , U2 , 30 Seconds to Mars .

Musical career
Steve Lilliwight began his musical career at PolyGram in 1972 as a recording studio operator. It was he who recorded the demo film for Ultravox , on the basis of which the group signed a contract with Island Records . Soon, Lilliwight himself was accepted into Island as a full-time producer: in this capacity, he worked with many famous new-wave musicians, achieving his first commercial success in August 1978 , when his debut single Siouxsie & the Banshees “ Hong Kong Garden ” became a British hit .
In the 1980s, Lillywight worked with Peter Gabriel (an album known as III or Melt ), The Psychedelic Furs , U2 - a group whose collaboration with him became a permanent job - Simple Minds , Big Country , XTC , The Chameleons , Toyah , Talking Heads , Eddie and the Hot Rods , Morrissey , The Rolling Stones . Great commercial success was in 1987, he recorded the single The Pogues "Fairytale of New York"; it was LillyWhite who persuaded to sing a duet with Shane McGohen his wife, singer Kersti McCall .
Among the most famous works of Lillywight of the 1990s are the albums Morrissey , Travis , Phish , Dave Matthews Band . In 2002, the head of Universal, Lucian Grainge, invited Lilliwight to the position of Managing Director of the company. In this capacity, he signed Darius (and became executive producer of his multi-platinum debut, Dive In ), as well as Razorlight . In September 2005, Lilliwight joined Columbia Records as Senior Vice President of A&R, signing, in particular, MGMT . He left the label in 2006.
