Elzhbet - the only child of the governor of Sandomierz Otto Piletsky and, probably, his second wife Yadviga from Melshtyn (godmother Jagiello). After the death of her father in 1384, she inherited his vast possessions, including Pilica and Lancut . Elzbieta became the richest girl in Poland.

Supposedly, she had several husbands before marriage with Jagiello: Hung Chambor (who was abducted in 1389, but later released on the orders of Jagiello Jan from Yicin), Jan from Yicin (from 1392 to 1395) and Vincent Granovsky (1397-1410).

From the third marriage had five children:

  • Jadwiga (from May 10, 1404, married to Jan of Leksandrovits);
  • Otto;
  • Elzhbet (from March 1418 she is married to the Prince of Opolsky Balko V )
  • Yang (founder of the Pilecki clan , coat of arms of Leliv );
  • Ofka, (from about 1423 married to the stepson of her mother, Jan from Yicin ).

In 1416, the second wife Yagailo, Anna Celeskaya , died. Jagiello liked Elzbet and he decided to marry her. May 2, 1417 the wedding took place in Sanok . Elzbieta was crowned November 19, 1417 in Wawel . Many were unhappy with this marriage, as they believed that the 45-year-old queen would not be able to give birth to an heir to the throne .

The royal secretary, Stanislav Tsiolek, wrote an allegorical fable about how a lion (Jagiello) married a pig (Eljbete) after she cast a spell on him.

Two years later, the queen began to show symptoms of tuberculosis . She died in Krakow on May 12, 1420 and was buried in the Mariatskaya chapel of the Krakow cathedral church . After 166 years, the remains of Eljbieta were removed from the chapel for the burial of King Stephen Batory in this place. The place of reburial is unknown. Martin Belsky noted that, judging by the bones, the queen was slim and beautiful in herself [3] .

Some researchers (for example, Klemens Kantetsky ( Polish. Klemens Kantecki )) cite the biography of Elzbieta, which differs significantly from the conventional one. The date of birth is considered to be 1382 (that is, it was ten years younger than is commonly believed). The first two marriages of Elzbieta are in doubt. It is believed that the figure of her second husband Yanchik (Yinchik) Ginchinsky could have been invented by Jan Dlugosh with the aim of discrediting Elzbet, showing her low origin.
