Construction
In the fall of 1896, it was ordered by the Chinese government to the German company Shihau together with three ships of the same type (Hai Lun, Hai Qing, Hai Si). Construction began in 1897, factory number 611. The destroyer was launched in 1898, and after completion it was tested. In the tests, all four showed high speed, breaking previously set records. "Hai Hua" was officially transferred to China in 1899 and sent to the Far East under its own power [1] .
Design
The design of the destroyer was typical of the Shihau destroyers with all the typical structural solutions - a riveted housing made of galvanized steel, divided into nine waterproof compartments. Each vertical three-cylinder triple expansion machine with four water tube boilers of the Tornicroft system was located in its own compartment. The working vapor pressure was 12 atm, and the forced one was 16 atm. The mover was bronze screws with a diameter of 1.85 meters. Electricity was provided by a 4 kW steam dynamo [1] .
Service
As part of the Qing Empire fleet
The destroyer arrived in China at the beginning of the uprising of the “boxers” and was set up to defend the Taku forts .
On June 4, 1900, the Gilyak , Fame, and Whiting ships of the combined fleet advanced to the Taku raid where the Chinese destroyers Hai Lun, Hai Qing, Hai Si and Hai Hua were stationed. Since the ships were under repair and were not ready for battle, and the Qing sailors, after the destroyer commander Hai Hua and several sailors were killed in a shootout, simply surrendered, it was not difficult for the English landing force under the command of Lieutenant Roger Keyes destroyers. The Allies took the captured ships to Tangu, where they were all renamed “Taku” and divided between the British, Russians, French and Germans. When dividing "Hai Hua" on June 7, 1900 he moved to Russia [2] [3] .
In the fleet of the Russian Empire
The destroyer team was formed from officers and sailors from other ships of the squadron, and after correcting minor damage, on June 14, 1900, the Andreevsky flag was hoisted on the Taku and the ship launched a campaign. During the tests, the destroyer easily kept the 28-junction course for 8 hours, which made it the fastest ship-participant in the Russian-Japanese war [1] .
On January 27, 1901, the destroyer was named "Lieutenant Burakov", in honor of the artillery officer of the gunboat "Koreets" Burakov Evgeny Nikolaevich (1874 - 1900), who died in battle when taking the Taku forts on June 4, 1900 [4] [1] .
At the beginning of the Russo-Japanese War, the destroyer was repaired and rearmed. Included in the First Squadron of the Pacific Fleet . During the campaigns, it was actively used as a patrol ship in Port Arthur and, being the fastest ship of the Port Arthur squadron, served as a messenger ship, broke through the Port Arthur blockade more than once and delivered documents to Yingkou and Chifu on instructions from the command.
To strengthen the artillery of Port Arthur forts and prepare for defense, according to order No. 78 of May 8, 1904, commander of the Pacific squadron, sailors from the 2nd rank cruiser Zabiyaka removed five 47-mm guns from Lieutenant Burakov and installed two guns at Fort No. 2 and at Fort No. 4, and one at Fort No. 3.
On the night of June 20, 1904, navigational officer E.S. Gernet, without the help of a pilot, led the destroyer past Japanese ships blocking Port Arthur and delivered the adjutant Count N.I. Gantimurov with an important report to Chifu, for which the last of June 21, 1904 received the Order of St. Anne 3rd degree with a bow and swords [5] . In the afternoon, the destroyer returned safely.
On July 23, 1904, "Lieutenant Burakov" and " Combat " were in Tae Bay on planned duty during the defense of Port Arthur . Both destroyers were attacked and badly damaged by Japanese mine boats from the squadron battleships Mikasa and Fuji [6] . In an explosion on a ship, two were killed and four were injured, and the engine room was flooded, as a result of which the ship lost speed. The destroyer " Stormy " began towing a heavily damaged destroyer to the shore, but hooking the ground with screws, it bent the propeller shafts and also lost speed. Further, "Lieutenant Burakov" was thrown into the sandbank, and during low tide the hull broke in half. Before the Japanese took Tache Bay, the “Lieutenant Burakov” removed valuable items and weapons, and the destroyer’s skeleton was blown up on July 29 [1] .
