Biography
Simon Qin Chunfu was born in 1886 into a large family. His three brothers and mother Elizabeth Qin Bian became martyrs. During the Ichétuan rebellion of boxers in 1899-1900. Christians were brutally persecuted in northern China. Simon Qin Chunfu, together with his family, was forced to flee to Liuqun due to the threats of persecution. There, one wealthy official offered Simon Qin Chunf help in sheltering his family from the persecution of boxers; in return, he set the condition for him to marry his only daughter. Simon Qin Chunfu refused and then the official gave the boxers a place of shelter for the family of Elizabeth Qin Bian. Simon Qin Chunfu asked the rebels to take only him, and the rest of the family was allowed to leave the village. The rebels, having captured Simon Qin Chunfu, killed him and injured his brothers Simon Qin and Paul Qin Baolu.
Simon Qin Chunfu was beatified on April 17, 1955 by Pope Pius XII with the French missionary Leon Mangen and canonized on October 1, 2000 by Pope John Paul II and a group of 120 Chinese martyrs .
