Criticism Reviews
The British music press praised the album, noting its strangeness and ominous aftertaste. The weekly Record Mirror in September 1979 called the album “flammable,” filled with a “sense of danger”; with him (according to the review), the Banshees became "the indisputable leaders of rock psychopathy": "The Banshees exploit the ominousness of people and therefore draw unhealthy attention to themselves." [4] The reviewer noted the iconoclastic "Icon", "Premature Burial" (based on the movie of the same name by Roger Corman ), "Playground Twist" combining the themes of childish naivety and death into a single whole. The reviewer calls the track “Mother” really “terrible” - in the Hitchcock sense of the word.
John Savage praised the album in Melody Maker , noting the first track “Poppy Day” (written under the impression of visiting a military cemetery in Flanders), “Placebo Effect” and “Icon” [5]
The opposite point of view is expressed by David Cleary, reviewer of Allmusic : the album, in his opinion, is poorly recorded, Susie is clearly not in shape, the arrangements are long, colorless, static and shapeless. [2]
