Biography
He was born in Nikolaev, in the family of a military serviceman-aviator. He graduated from high school in Kiev. He entered the Kiev Medical Institute. During the occupation of Kiev by German troops, he was evacuated to Chelyabinsk, where he continued his studies. After the liberation of Kiev in 1943, he returned to his hometown. He graduated with honors from the KMI in 1944. He took the post of assistant at the Department of Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy of the KMI. In 1948 he graduated from graduate school at the department. In the same year he defended his thesis "On the surgical anatomy of the pancreas." Since 1952, assistant professor of operative surgery. He defended his doctoral dissertation in 1962 (“Blood vessels and nerve apparatus of the heart in experimental pathology”).
In 1964-1994 - Head of the Department of Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy of the Kiev Medical Institute - Ukrainian State Medical University - National Medical University named after Academician A. A. Bogomolets . Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the Ukrainian SSR, laureate of the State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR (1983).
He was buried at Baykovsky cemetery , section 49a, Kiev (Ukraine).
Scientific activity
Actively developed the scientific direction of experimental modeling in surgery. His scientific works are devoted to the study of the morphology and morphological and functional justification of surgical interventions on the organs of the gastrointestinal tract, heart, great vessels and nerves [1] . He has over 350 published scientific papers. The author of a textbook for medical students operating since 1985, "Surgical Surgery and Topographic Anatomy."

Interesting Facts
At the age of 14, Kotya Kulchitsky starred in the film “Tom Sawyer” of the Kiev film studio (1936) in the title role (directed by L. Frenkel , G. Zatvornitsky).
For over 30 years, heading the Department of Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy of the Kiev Medical Institute, Academician K.I. Kulchitsky was known to the medical community of the former USSR and abroad not only as an outstanding scientist, but also as an excellent leader and organizer. Being an emotional person, K. I. Kulchitsky at the same time became the author of the catch phrases: “What's the matter?” (Glasses creep up), “I’m angry for only three minutes.”
