As part of Finland

The decision to build the railway Viipuri (now Vyborg) - Heinjoki (now Veshchevo) - Ristseppälä (now Zhitkovo) - Äyräpää (now Baryshevo) - Valkjarvi (now Michurinsky) was adopted by the Finnish government in 1919.

Initially, the line was state-owned. The line ran close to the border with the Soviet Union and was of strategic importance, contributed to the development of agriculture and industry in the south-east of the country.

In 1936, the Seimas considered a project for the construction of a branch to the Mullyupelto station. However, the project was not accepted. In the future, the idea of building this branch was raised again, but all further design work was interrupted by the Winter War .

In the same year, the Sejm also considered a project to extend the branch from Valkjarvi (now Michurinsky) to Rautu (now Sosnovo ). But because of the Winter War, work on this project was interrupted. After the end of the Winter War, the Soviet Union tried to complete the road, but in the summer of 1941 a new - World War II - war began. This section of the railway was never completed.

The 45 km long section Liimatta (now Lazarevka) - Äyräpää (now Baryshevo) was opened for train traffic, and the Äyräpää (now Baryshevo) section - Valkjarvi (now Michurinskoe) (25 km) - January 1, 1930.

During the Soviet-Finnish War

On November 30, 1939, the USSR attacked Finland. For three months, at the cost of huge losses, the Karelian Isthmus was captured, the Vyborg-Michurinskoye railway line, according to the Moscow Peace Treaty , was transferred to the USSR .

On June 22, 1941, Finland simultaneously with Nazi Germany attacked the USSR and soon regained control of the territories lost in 1940. In 1944, the territory of the Karelian Isthmus, the Northern Ladoga region and the Pechenga region finally passed to the Soviet Union.

During the war years, the branch was seriously destroyed and in the post-war period was restored only in the section Lazarevka (Liimatta) - Zhitkovo (Ristseppälä) .

Post-Soviet period

As of the summer of 1996, passenger and cargo traffic existed on the Vyborg-Zhitkovo line. Three pairs of Vyborg - Zhitkovo suburban trains were in operation: 5:10 - 6:13, 15:05 - 16:08, 18:20 - 19:24, back 6:31 - 7:36, 16:17 - 17: 20, 19:36 - 20:42. D1 four-car diesel trains worked on the route.

In 1999, passenger traffic on the Vyborg-Zhitkovo railway was discontinued due to the poor condition of the track. Since then, there has been no traffic on the Veshchevo-Zhitkovo section, and minimal cargo work was supported at the Veshchevo station (cargo removal from the ballast quarry 3-4 times a week).

From April 24, 2000, passenger traffic was restored on the line, but only to Veshchevo station: two pairs of trains, daily in the morning, and on weekdays in the evening. However, on April 27 the movement was again stopped.

As of May 2000, on the Veshchevo - Zhitkovo section, the rails were stolen for several hundred meters. At the entrance to the Zhitkovo station, a semaphore was preserved, and at the station there were broken wagons of D1 diesel trains.

On May 26, 2000, the movement of suburban trains by the Vyborg-Veshchevo communication was again resumed. And the Veshchevo-Zhitkovo stage equipped with real semaphores (the last on the Karelian Isthmus) in 2001 was finally dismantled (already by the Ministry of Railways ).

As of May 2005, a local train connecting Vyborg - Veshchevo shuttled twice a day (only on weekdays), morning and evening. The train consisted of an M62 diesel locomotive and two passenger cars. The line was mainly used by residents of the villages of Perovo and Veshchevo for trips to the place of work - to the city of Vyborg , this was due to the lack of traffic on weekends.

By that time, there were no intermediate separate points on the line; the former Perovo station was a stopping point. At the stopping points Karhusuo , Perovo and Veshchevo , Finnish platforms, composed of large, roughly hewn granite blocks, have been preserved.

As of 2008, it was one of the most unprofitable inactive sections of the October Railway.

On April 1, 2009, passenger traffic on the Vyborg - Veshchevo line was finally closed [1] . As of the beginning of 2012, the railway was partially dismantled.

Short Description

At the stopping point, the remains of the Finnish platform, as well as the foundation of the station, have been preserved. The station was built in 1928, at the beginning of the 90s of the XX century it was disassembled into boards and stole [2] .

Previously, the stopping point was a passing. In the early 90s of the XX century, traveling was abolished [2] .

Zhitkovo

Then the rails on the stage were stolen in places, the movement on the stage was impossible, and the cars were cut off from the "outside world". Now in the village of Zhitkovo , only a Finnish-built platform remains from the station, the cars of D1 diesel trains were pulled apart for scrap.

Michurinsky

In the village of Michurinskoye , a Finnish-built platform and the building of a former steam train depot with a turntable remained from the railway.

At the site of the Zhitkovo-Baryshevo-Michurinskoye section, a forest road passes.

Interesting Facts
