Biography

The future actress was born in Boston in a family of doctors [1] . She developed a love for acting at school [2] , but on the advice of her father, before seriously doing this, she graduated from college with a degree in mathematics and computer science. Then, for a year, she studied at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland , where participation in the local drama circle finally convinced her to become an actress [2] .

The first success for Jane Alexander came in 1967 on the theatrical stage of Washington . In the future, she continued her successful career in the theater, becoming the winner of the Tony Award in 1970 , as well as in the cinema, where for her roles in the films Great White Hope ( 1970 ), All Presidential Army ( 1976 ), Kramer vs. Kramer ( 1979 ) and Testament ( 1983 ) four times became a nominee for an Oscar . For television roles in the television films “Pulling Time” ( 1980 ) and “Warm Springs” ( 2005 ), Jane Alexander won two Emmy Awards.

In 1993, the actress was appointed by President Bill Clinton as chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, which she headed until 1997 . Currently, Jane Alexander takes an active position in the Wildlife Fund, participates in the community for nuclear disarmament, and is also a member of the International Leaders Forum [3] . The actress was married twice, giving birth in 1964 to the second wife of her son Jace, who became a television director [2] .
