Etymology
Named in honor of Baidibek Karashauly .
Geography
Located 70 km from Almaty. Stretched along the A-2 highway in the foothills of the Tien Shan Range [3] .
Population: Kazakhs , Uigurs , Russians , Chechens , Turks and others.
Received notoriety in the press as a result of inter-ethnic clashes between ethnic Chechens and Kazakhs that unfolded on March 17-18, 2007 in the villages of Kazatkom and Malovodnoe [4] .
History
Malovodnoye village was founded in 1871 in the Atamkul tract. In 1913 there were 76 courtyards, there were a church, a parochial school, a tannery, 6 mills and 15 commercial establishments. The village was part of the Malovodnensky Volost of the Zaitsevsky District of the Vernensky District of the Semirechensky Region [5] .
In 1980, joined the village of Evgenievka .
Population
In 1999, the population of the village was 7,001 people (3,309 men and 3,692 women) [6] . According to the 2009 census , 9,802 people (4,690 men and 5,112 women) lived in the village [6] .
