Title

The word "Saramak" is approximately translated from Udmurt as an ancestor who begins the clan. The second part is Udmurt Saramak - a village in the Kizner district; one of the ancient settlements on the territory of Udmurtia. First mentioned in the XV century. as a settlement that is part of the Kazan Khanate; judging by the census of 1710, the village was called Saramak-Pelga, it had 17 households; The village of Saramak is part of the huge Pelga-Vyl, located at the junction of the Grakhovsky, Kiznersky, Mozhginsky, Vavozhsky, Uvinsky districts.

Recently, an extremely interesting fact was found out: in Saramak along with the Udmurts of the Pelga clan or Besermans lived before them, traditions and language speak of this - the dialect of Saramak Udmurts. One elderly man from the neighboring village of Starye Yatchi, Grakhovskiy District, recalled that earlier the Saramakovites were called Besermyans (Saramakez Beserman Shuo Val). In Saramak we were informed that Besermans lived in these parts before, but then they left for Bashkiria. Not only in the dialect of the village of Saramak, but also in the neighboring Grakhov dialects, there are a number of phonetic correspondences with the Beserman dialect, as well as with the Kukmor dialect.

Saramak-Pelga: Saramak - the personal name of the founder of the village (from the Turkic sara “surround, envelop” + poppy - affix) + Pelga - shame-clan name; literally “the village of the Pelga clan founded by Saramak.” The old name of the village - “Pelga” is a generic Udmurt name [2] .
