About the album
Produced by Mark Knopfler and Dylan himself, Infidels marks Dylan's return to secular themes in music and a departure from the gospel sound of previous Christian albums. Although Dylan never publicly renounced his faith and refused to use religious images, Infidels focuses on the more personal topics of love and separation, as well as the fate of man and mankind, mentioning environmental issues and geopolitics.
Musical critics wrote a lot about this album, almost unanimously in a positive way, approving both the songs themselves and the sound. The album sold pretty well: it reached 20th place in the United States (where it later became gold) and 9th in the UK.
