Biography
Magnus Reitern was born on June 10, 1801. His father, Gisbert Magnus von Reitern, was a lieutenant in the service of Louis XV , and later a Riga county leader of the nobility, and was married to Darya Feodorovna von Lowenstern.
After initial training at home and at the Riga City College Reitern, on February 2, 1817, he entered military service as a lieutenant and was promoted to ensign in the Grenadier Emperor Franz I Regiment on February 27, 1819; in January 1821, he was transferred to the Life Guards Semenov regiment and then gradually made the next rank up to the rank of colonel inclusive, and on April 16, 1841, he was promoted to major general .
On February 12, 1842, Reitern was appointed commander of the Grenadier Emperor Franz I regiment , and then, on December 11, 1844, commander of the Life Guards Pavlovsky Regiment , who took command on February 26, 1845. January 12, 1846 Reytern for impeccable service was awarded the Order of St.. George of the 4th degree (No. 7383 according to the list of Grigorovich - Stepanov).
Soon political unrest arisen in Western Europe, and especially the uprising that was being prepared in Hungary, led Emperor Nicholas I to lead the Guards regiments to martial law, including the Life Guards Pavlovsky Regiment, directed in May 1848 to the western borders of the Russian Empire .
On July 22, the regiment, and with it von Reitern, arrived in Bialystok . When, on November 19, 1850, the regiment celebrated the 25th anniversary of the transfer by the chief of his heir, Cesarevitch (future Emperor Alexander II ), Reitern received a golden snuffbox with His Highness's portrait, sprinkled with diamonds, and, moreover, an order was given, which spoke of fervent zeal, jealousy and good faith ministry Reitern.
On December 6, 1851, Reitern was promoted to be a lieutenant general with the appointment to be attached to the infantry guard corps, and on November 17, 1852, he was appointed head of the 1st infantry division, and then, September 17, 1855, head of the 1st Grenadier Division and in 1862 he was appointed to sitting in the General Audience of the War Ministry.
Magnus Magnusovich Reitern died on March 16, 1863, in St. Petersburg (excluded from lists on March 23), buried at the Volkov Lutheran cemetery. According to contemporaries, he was a strict man, very exacting and demanding in the service, but taking care of the team entrusted to him.
Family
From March 30, 1847, he was married to Olga Karlovna Albrecht (1828–1898), the daughter of General Karl Ivanovich Albrecht from his marriage with Varvara Sergeevna Yakovleva. After the death of her husband, Olga Karlovna was the head of the Nikolaev Orphan Institute in Moscow. Married had 3 sons and 2 daughters:
