Airtricity Limited is an Irish company working in the field of construction of renewable energy generating plants. The company was founded in 1997 and was later acquired by Scottish and Southern Energy . The company operates in the international market, participating, in particular, in the construction of the Great Gabbard wind farm, which at the beginning of 2010 was the largest wind farm in the world under construction.

Company History
Eirtricity was founded in 1997 by Irish entrepreneur Eddie O'Connor. The company carried out the construction of wind power plants in the counties of Cavan , Donegal , Sligo and Wexford , although the number of installed turbines was significantly less than the number planned.
The company changed its name to Airtricity from the original Eirtricity , derived from the word Éire (Ireland) in 2002.
In 2007, Airtricity was awarded the title of 'The No.1 Best Company to Work For in Ireland' by Great Place To Work Institute .
The company was sold to Scottish and Southern Energy in January 2008 for an estimated value of € 1.1 billion. [one]
Company founder Eddie O'Connor left Airtricity in 2008 and founded Mainstream Renewable Power . [2]
Current position
Airtricity has been owned by Scottish and Southern Energy since February 15, 2008 and is positioned as "the Scottish and Southern Energy Group's renewable energy business." [3]
