Club career

Abel Hernandez began his career at the football school of the Atalanta club from his hometown of Pando . At the age of 11, he moved to the Peñaroli school, where he spent 4 years. From there, Hernandez was expelled due to his too fragile physique, which was considered unsuitable for a football player [3] . After that, Hernandez moved to the Central Espanyol club, where in 2007 he began to play for the main team [4] . In the summer of 2008, Abel went through a show at the Italian club Genoa . The club decided not to conclude a contract with the player due to the lack of citizenship in the EU [5] [6] and the poor medical condition of the player [3] [7] .

On July 31, 2008, Hernandez returned to Peñarol, where he quickly won a place in the first team. In October of the same year, the Uruguayan revealed an arrhythmia of the upper heart ventricle [8] . 32 days later, after a comprehensive examination, the club’s doctors gave Hernandez permission to resume training [3] .

On February 2, 2009, Palermo bought out 50% of the rights to Hernandez, paying EUR 3.7 million and signing a contract until 2013 [9] . At the same time, the club received the priority right to redeem the remaining rights to the player [10] . On February 23, Hernandez underwent a full-fledged examination, which examined the player’s ability to exercise [11] [12] . Hernandez's debut game was the match of the Italian championship , March 15, with Lecce , where he came out in the 84th minute, replacing Edinson Cavani . After that, Hernandez spent another match, with Chievo , and was given to the Palermo youth team, which included scoring the winning goal in the match against Salernitana [13] [14] . Then he continued to score goals for the “youth team” of the club, hitting the Juventus gate in the 1/4 finals, and then making an assist in the semifinal game with the Chievo club (1: 0). In the finals of the Primavera, Hernandez scored the only goal in the match against Siena and brought victory to his team, for the first time in its history, performances in the Italian youth championship. In April 2012, Palermo extended the contract with Abel until June 30, 2016 [15] . In October of that year, he received a knee ligament rupture due to which he was out of order for six months [16] .

In the summer of 2014, a Uruguayan moved to Hull City , the transfer amount was 9.5 million pounds . The player’s transfer amount was a record for the club [17] , also the Uruguayan became the team's highest paid player with an income of 35 thousand pounds per week [18] . In May 2015, Abel was disqualified for 3 matches for rudeness against Phil Jones [19] . In November 2016, Hernandez suffered a groin injury, which is why he missed more than a month [20] . In December of the same year, the striker extended the contract with Hull until the summer of 2018 [21] . On January 29, 2017, Hernandez did not score two penalties in the FA Cup match, which made a difference of 30 seconds: the goalkeeper hit the first penalty, after which the ball bounced to Abel, but the goalkeeper managed to foul and the second one was appointed. Hernandez struck him a second time, and the second time the goalkeeper was able to beat off the blow [22] . In August 2017, Abel received a serious injury to the Achilles tendon, due to which he was out of action for six months [23] .

In the summer of 2018, information appeared about the interest in Uruguayan from Moscow CSKA [24] . On August 1, he signed a contract with the club for 3 years [25] . His salary amounted to 1.8 million euros per year [26] . Also, the clause stipulating the possibility of termination of the agreement without payment of compensation in the event a football player is seriously injured in the next six months is prescribed in the Uruguayan contract [27] . August 2 held the first training session in a new team [28] . On August 5, Hernandez made his debut as part of the “army”. The striker replaced at the beginning of the second half of the match of the 2nd round with Rostov (0: 1). On August 11, in the match of the 3rd round with “ Yenisei ” (1: 1), he scored his first goal for the “red-blue”. The Uruguayan appeared on the field at the 57th minute of the meeting, and at the 79th scored from the penalty spot. In the match of the 7th round with Ufa (3-0), Abel suffered damage to the soft tissues of the thigh. Recovery took more than a month. On November 3, a Uruguayan was injured again. This happened during the match of the 13th round of the championship against Dynamo Moscow (0: 0). The striker was diagnosed with damage to the adductors of the right thigh [29] . For the striker, this exit on the field was the first since mid-September. [30] April 13, 2019 scored in the gates of “ Orenburg ”, but the army team lost with a score of 2: 3. At the end of the season, the player left the club CSKA , the agreement was terminated by mutual agreement. [31]

In July 2019, Abel Hernandez will continue his career in Qatar, the footballer signed a contract with Al Ahly from Doha. [32]
