Society of Architects-Artists

Society of Architects-Artists (OAH) ( Imperial Society of Architects-Artists , Petrograd Society of Architects-Artists , since 1922 - Leningrad Society of Architects-Artists ) - a creative association of architects of St. Petersburg (Petrograd, Leningrad).

It was founded in St. Petersburg in December 1903. It was abolished in 1932 due to the formation of the Union of Soviet Architects (SSA) and the creation of its Leningrad branch (LOSSA).

Content

History

The Society of Architects-Artists (OAH) was founded in St. Petersburg on October 15, 1903 by professors and graduates of the Imperial Academy of Arts - L. N. Benois , A. A. Grube , N. Kozlov, G. I. Kotov , B. Nikolaev, A. N. Pomerantsev , M. T. Preobrazhensky , P. Yu. Suzor , V. P. Zeidler [1] .

In 1906-1916 and 1927-1935, the OAH published the Yearbook of the Society of Architects and Artists, and in 1914-1917, the magazine Architectural and Art Weekly [2] .

When the Society was formed and acted:

  • Commission for the study and description of the monuments of Old Petersburg (1907);
  • Committee of the Museum of Old Petersburg (1909-1918);
  • Committee of the Historical and Architectural Exhibition (1911; held in the halls of the Imperial Academy of Arts);

After 1917, the activities of society ceased; restored under the name "Leningrad Society of Architects and Artists" in 1922. In 1927, the issue of Yearbooks was resumed. The circle of architects and artists was formed in Moscow ; briefly, the Society of Architects-Artists worked in Kiev [2] . In 1927, the OAH numbered 152 members [3] .

At different times, the chairpersons of the company were P. Yu. Suzor, M. S. Lyalevich , L. N. Benois, A. A. Grube, V. S. Rozhnovsky [2] [3] .

Competitions announced by the Company

The company held more than 150 competitions for various structures [2] . In Soviet times, the following contests were held:

  • Monument to V.I. Lenin at Finland Station (1924; jointly with the Leningrad Society of Architects )
  • Botkin Hospital in Leningrad (1926)
  • Bakery in Leningrad (1926)
  • Facade of the Coil Factory named after Comrade Volodarsky in Leningrad
  • Lathe workshop of the Ilyich Emery-Mechanical Plant on Vasilyevsky Island in Leningrad (1926)
  • Interior decoration and furnishings of passenger rooms of ships of the Crimean-Caucasian line (1927)
  • Crematorium at the Volkov Cemetery in Leningrad (1929)
