Description
Beetles of medium size (from 6.5 to 13 mm), elongated body, color from brown to black. Larvae develop under the bark of trees. They are found in North America , East and Southeast Asia, and the Far East [1] .
Systematics
The family includes 4 genera and 9 species. The morphology of the larvae showed that the synchroids are close to the families Zopheridae and Stenotrachelidae , although the adults more closely resemble Melandryidae. Another phylogenetic analysis considers Synchroidae as a sister group of the clade from Pterogeniidae , Tetratomidae , Mycetophagidae , Archeocrypticidae , Chalcodryidae , Promecheilidae and Ulodidae (McKenna et al. 2015) [1] .
