He fought in the ranks of the 422nd Infantry Division (2nd formation), which was transformed on March 1, 1943 into the 81st Guards Rifle Division .

From September 7, 1943 to October 2, 1943, Major Ivan Akimov commanded the 238th Guards Rifle Regiment ( 81st Guards Rifle Division , 7th Guards Army , Steppe Front ), which distinguished itself in the battles to liberate Ukraine at the end of September 1943. .

In the area of ​​the village of New Orlik (now the village of Orlik in the Kobelyak district of the Poltava region of Ukraine ), the regiment of the Guard of Major Akimov I.A. broke through the enemy defenses and crossed to the right bank of the Dnieper River , where he took possession of the bridgehead .

From January 10 to March 22, 1944, I. A. Akimov was the commander of the 233rd Guards Rifle Regiment of the 81st Guards Rifle Division.

After the war he continued to serve in the army. In 1950, he graduated from the Shot courses . Reserve Colonel Akimov I.A. lived and worked in the city of Khabarovsk . He died on August 5, 1977 .
