Tests

Timo Glock on tests in Jerez .

The presentation of the car was supposed to take place online on the official website of the team on February 3, 2010 . [2] However, for technical reasons, it was canceled, but the car itself was shown in the British Silverstone , where on February 4-5, 2010 the first run-in of the new car was held. [3] [4]

The first official tests of the new car were held in February 2010 in Jerez . [five]

Performance History

Lucas di Grassi at the 2010 Belgian Grand Prix .

In the first qualification for the Bahrain Grand Prix, Timo Glock managed to become the fastest among the pilots of the new teams, while his partner Lucas di Grassi lost to both pilots of Lotus Racing . [6] The race ended for Virgin Racing with a double descent, due to a hydraulic failure in the Brazilian and a gearbox failure in the German. [7]

Before the second race of the season, information appeared that due to an error in the calculations, the car’s fuel tank was too small and could not accommodate the amount of fuel needed to cover the entire race [8] . The team turned to the FIA with a request to modify the car and received permission to make changes to the chassis design.

In the first half of the season, the team was plagued by a variety of problems, the main reason for which was the lack of a single center, common base, and an established communication system - the machine was developed by some people, and operated by others.

For the first time, the Virgin Racing pilot was able to get to the finish line only in the third race of the season - in Malaysia Lucas di Grassi took the 14th line of the protocol, this result, like Timo Glock's 14th place in Suzuka, was the best for the team during the championship. As a result, the pilots managed to finish exactly in half of the races - 19 out of 38.

Virgin Racing finished the debut season on the last line in the Cup of Designers, but was able to prove the applicability of a unique technical approach and provide financial guarantees for the next year [9] .
