History
The Pole Star Tournament began its history in 1990. In 1997, the competitions of the strongest pole vaults in the world were included in the IAAF official sports calendar. The tournament has gained immense popularity and fame throughout the world. Over the years, the hall of the Donetsk Palace of Sports " Friendship " saw almost all the strongest pole vaults in the world. At the competitions 11 world records and dozens of national ones were set. Since 2004, competitions have been held among women. Over the years of the tournament, 130 athletes from 30 countries took part in it.
Three times the city of Donetsk witnessed the establishment of world records among men and five times among women. One of them - 6.15, established by the famous Sergey Bubka in 1993, currently beaten by Renault Lavilleni (6.16 m) on February 15, 2014 at the same tournament. For women, 2009 was marked by the new, twelfth, world record of Elena Isinbaeva - 5.00 m.
