Distribution and Ecology
In nature , the range covers the southeast of Australia - the northern part of the New South Wales plateau and the southeastern part of the Queensland plateau.
It can withstand without significant damage short frosts of 7-8 °. Alpine races of this species will undoubtedly be more winter-hardy.
It grows in the mountains from 900 to 1200 m above sea level. It is found in abundance in many areas of the New England Ridge, where it reaches the largest sizes on the moist eastern slopes. On deep alluvial soils, it grows almost twice as fast as on dry clay slopes. In the first case, it reaches a height of 3.7-4 m in two years, and in the second only 2 m.
