Feast of the Great Egyptian Queen of Love Cleopatra

The art action took place on November 10 and 11, 1989, in the exhibition pavilion ^{[2] of the} GlavSevKavStroy construction trust (Builders Park), colloquially referred to as “Glass” ^[3] . The initiator and main driving force of the project was Sergey Timofeev , artist of the Art or Death partnership and founding father of the Beijing Row Row group.

“I did not give up painting and continue to think as an artist - plastic. But in addition to brushes, paints, some tins, photographs, there is also music and words. And all this can be collaged. Actually, this was the first attempt of the early concerts of "Beijing" . The first concert we decided to devote to the memory of the Egyptian Queen of Love Cleopatra. And there the implementation of all this music was to take place in certain scenery, in a certain space. Such performances are always inherently unpredictable. The idea, as I said, consisted in the collage of certain scenery - both in the visual series, and through certain music and as sound. And the main essence of the idea is the creation of a certain holiday. Moreover, some provincial and completely unpredictable among the audience. Because there were invited masses of people, including urban lunatics, who have completely unpredictable impulses. And therefore one could expect anything. In fact, everything was elementary simple: to create a festival so festive, a festival where people would simply “drag themselves in” ” ^[4] - S. Timofeev , 1991.

“Meanwhile, Timothy and his comrades, apparently, were preparing seriously for the event. Specially for the holiday, the song “Cleopatra, we want to love you - wow oh” was written, the stage design was developed, the concept was invented (“radical holiday for the people”: homeless people living in the area of ​​the railway station were invited as participants); there was even a public political “positioning” of the action: the organizers said that “Cleopatra” is a happening that is carried out by a group of “left” artists ” ^[5] .

The RSU Student Club and the Art or Death Partnership hold a celebration named after the Great Egyptian Queen of Love Cleopatra.
